Refusing food: Paul and Rachel Chandler

Kidnapped yacht couple 'refusing to eat'

16 Nov 2009

The British couple kidnapped by Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean are refusing to eat or drink, their captors said today.

Paul and Rachel Chandler, seized while sailing from the Seychelles on 23 October, are being held for a £4.2million ransom.

The couple from Tunbridge Wells have become ill from infected food or water, Awali, one of the pirates, said: "They will not speak to us, and refuse to eat or drink. They have serious health problems. The woman is vomiting often."

The Royal navy allowed it's sailors to be kidnapped by the Iranian's and then stood by and watched(again) as the Chandler's were also kidnapped! My God, our navy is an embarrassment and certainly not fit for purpose. Please if ever I find myself about to be kidnapped let the Americans deal with it. I would rather an attempt at rescue in the first place then left to fester in some cell somewhere. Poor lord Nelson must be rolling in his grave right now looking at our cowardly navy today!
