Doctor struck off for breast cancer errors

A GP who failed to refer three patients with suspected breast cancer to hospital has been struck off.

Dr Shaheda Sarwar saw the patients at St Paul's Medical Centre in Bow in 2005. The first woman, Patient A, complained of pain in her breast. Dr Sarwar prescribed medication but did not refer her to a breast clinic.

Dr Sarwar did refer Patient B over a lump in her breast but failed to tell her it could be cancer. She then failed to refer the third woman, despite the patient telling her she had had a lump in her breast for two months.

Dr Sarwar, from Essex, denied the allegations and did not attend the General Medical Council hearing when she was struck off.

Isn't it time we had far more severe competency tests for these foreign doctors who put our people in peril?
