Outrage as Labour candidate likens the Queen to ‘vermin’
Paul Waugh, Deputy Political Editor16 Nov 2009
A Labour Party candidate came under fire from the Tories today after he likened the Queen to “vermin”.
Peter White, who is contesting the South Hornchurch council ward in Havering next year, used the Facebook site of Tory MP Andrew Rosindell to condemn plans to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in 2012.
Mr Rosindell last week presented a bill calling for a national holiday to coincide with the anniversary.
South Hornchurch is in the constituency of Dagenham and Rainham, currently held by Labour's Jon Cruddas.
Neighbouring Barking and Dagenham Council is one of the BNP's strongest areas.
Mr White, a former election agent in Romford, wrote: “What is the point of celebrating the Diamond Jubilee of someone who is born into a position of privilege, she is a parasite and milks this country for everything she can.
“She has more front than Margate asking for extra money from the civil list. Maybe she should sell a couple of her properties.
“Maybe if she wants Buckingham Palace to be maintained from public funds she should open it to the public.
“Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with a public holiday but lets [sic] have one that means something, rather than celebrating vermin.”
Romford MP Mr Rosindell said that he was “appalled” by Mr White's remarks. “I suspect that many Labour voters will also be offended by his comments. I think this very damaging to the Labour Party as many working-class voters support the Queen,” he said.
“Everyone is entitled to their views as to whether we are a Monarchy or a Republic, but most of the public would disagree with such offensive language.”
Mr White today stood by his remarks. “Maybe you could say I went too far, but that's for other people to judge,” he told The Standard.
“I think that Republicanism is a valid viewpoint and there are plenty of people who agree with me.”
The Barking and Dagenham council elections will be particularly closely watched next year as the east London borough already has the biggest number of BNP councillors in the country. The BNP has 12 of the 51 seats and is the official opposition.

How have none of the royal family had a job do you say that the armed forces is not a job as I'm sure that Prince Harry, Prince William and two of Queen Elizabeth's sons were part of the armed forces. I may not think that the Royal Family is needed but it is bit harsh to refer to them as vermin especially when the MPs themselves use our tax money to help themselves out more and more. So far this year all I hear is more expense claims and how the country has been sent into recession and not helped yet MPs still have nice houses two for some and cars yet the Queen is a parasite I believe Mr White should look in a mirror.

"O.K. Phillip dear. I'm just orff now in the chauffeur driven Rolls to the airport.
As you know, dear, no passport control for me, or a two hour wait for my plane after check-in. Oh no. Arrive at the airport....on the plane...and orff.
When I arrive at the other end, there's a limo waiting to whisk me orff to whichever residence I am staying.
Then the real work starts. I have to shake a few hands, maybe sign a few papers, then walk around for a few minutes accepting bunches of flowers from little children.....Then it's orff to either a first class lunch or dinner. Maybe a few drinks after, then to bed.
After rising in the morning and getting dressed, (helped by my "Lady-in-waiting") it's downstairs to a lovely breakfast, (and no washing up to do afterwards!).
Then I'm whisked orff again to the airport and I'm back home before you know it.
And the beauty of it all is that the peasants out there who think that I am wonderful, really believe that we members of this royal family work really hard and are of financial benefit to this country. As long as we have these brain dead idiots on our side, darling, we have nothing to fear from the likes of Peter White or similar people of his ilk!"

i agree with mr white, the queen and the whole royal family are parasites, and are an outdated constitution, and an unnecessary expense to the nation just so we can boast to the world that we have a monarchy.
in this day and age of so called equal oppotunity what is wrong with a republic where everybody can achieve head of state and not a family born into that esteemed position.
by the way where was our so called next head of state charles on rememberance sunday, certainly not in this country remembering real people that gave their lives for this nation. the whole family are an utter disgrace.

Monarchy is surpassed and it doesn't matter if the Queen is a net asset or liability to this country. And it's not communism being against this inner circle of "I can do whatever I want". It's just a different kind of mafia where someone can take/decide/reign without having to explain why. All they have is coming from colonialism and all their power is coming from a silent pact with politicians. Moreover they look stupid abroad...

I cannot believe how blindsided many of you people are i'm surprised that no one has called him a terrorist yet. The monarchy if disolved would bring more money into this country than you would ever know (the dutchy of cornwall for one) they are parasites and have kept in a corrupt and elitest mentality through out all of society including politics. I mean you only have to harp back to WW1 to realise what these vermin think of anyone outside there small minded circle. Three cousins fighting against each other and then getting the drum beat going and calling it patriotism, it makes me sick that so many people are still fooled by this charade. Before you all start with the rhetoric of "oh another pinko commie" i'm of the opinion that it is more open to corruption than the current backwards regime we have.

I find it rather strange that someone standing for a parliamentary position would be unaware that the Queen is given money from the Civil List because she allows the money from the Crown Estates to go to the govt, instead of her. As the Crown Estates generate vastly more money than the Civil List takes out, the Queen is in point of fact a significant net contributor to the nation's finances, regardless of anything she may or may not do.
I wonder how many of our MPs could honestly say the same? Given the constant troughing and the fact that they have both ruined our economy and wasted billions on unnecessary wars, over-bureaucracy and vanity projects over the last twelve years, I suspect very few.
I can't say I am really a fan of the monarchy, but given the utter uselessness and endemic corruption of our current political classes, I can't help thinking that we'd do far better to abolish Parliament than to abolish the Queen.
If Labour want to genuinely stand any chance at all in the next election, I think they will need a far better quality of candidate than this gentleman...

'Vermin' and 'Parasite' are words one should use for the present Labour Party. The sleaze epitomised by the likes of messrs Mandelson, Hain and Smith, to name but a few, is obvious to all but the blindly insane and inadequate. I well remember my Father, many years ago, telling me that 'One can always buy-off a socialist..' How true were his words. Lets hope that the next election will rid the UK of these self-satisfying sleaze-bags for many years to come.

Let's be real. These socialists are 1984 and Animal Farm combined. Vague rhetoric about all equal, only they can decide fairness. So only the State(them) must decide all aspects of worker's lives.
They take as much money as they can, heap debts onto taxpayers, and leave the place in chaos and a total mess.
Like teenagers gone mad with Mum and Dad's credit card.
They do it every other decade. Everything they say is backed by incompetence. 'I ended boom and bust' must be one of the stupidest boasts ever. What a joke! For his next joke Labour will 'save the world'. Oh dear UK still in recession, after being 'best placed to recover! Ha ha
An NHS computer system at £2bn, now £12bn and rising. Ha Ha Ha, lots paid to companies owned by 'friends' of Labour chiefs. They milk everyone. Poor lose their 10 pence tax rate.
Socialists finally run out of other people's money, and 1 million 16-24 year olds are unemployed. Labour boast of 'investment in youth training'. Only the Guardian nailed Labour who have cut £350m from front line youth training. Think Labour, think 1984 spin.

People should learn about the Royal Family and what they do before dismissing them in a totally ignorant way as "parasites". The Queen still works hard and she is in her 80s. Prince Charles works non stop (almost compulsively) at charitable and social projects. Princess Anne is also extremely hard working and performs many engagements each year. Not many people could do what they do - it is selfless work - doing some very boring things with a smile and making people feel good. I happened to be outside Buckingham Palace recently when some Royal cars went into the courtyard and the excitement amongst the visitors out side the Palace was intense. These people are real and mean something - not like the self seeking politicians and vacuous celebrities some people would like to have as our rulers.

When people insult the Royal Family it puts their complete ignorance on public display. The income from tourism which is created is far higher than the cost of maintaining the Royal family besides which they have now to pay taxes and the Queen funds several other members herself without the help of public money.
She has been on the Throne for so many years and has maintained a very stable household. They have family disputes and upsets just like everyone else and have held their heads above very nasty criticism.
If you have ever watched the Changing of the Guard or been to the Tower of London Mr. White, you would know the strength of the tourism industry through the Royal Family and by the way, Buckingham Palace is open to the public in the summer.
What a dummy Mr. White has shown himself to be - let's criticise and condemn the parliamentarians who are busy fleecing the public with their cheating and very padded expense accounts -they are the real vermin and parasites.
I doubt that the taxi drivers would agree with Mr. White - they love the business! Regular as clockwork - every summer!
