The manager of a Chelsea wine bar who plunged to his death was involved in a struggle with his girlfriend before he died, a court heard today.
Luca di Berardino, who worked at Blushes in the King's Road, told his partner he was going to jump out of the window after a row. Minutes later, the 27-year-old died as he was impaled on railings outside their flat in Fulham.
Sylvia Spadati told an inquest at Westminster coroner's court that Mr Berardino had been drinking, smoking and taking cocaine before telling her his “life was horrible”.
Miss Spadati struggled through tears to give an account of the night of 8 September. She said the pair argued after Mr Berardino began looking at her Facebook page and became “jealous” of her male friends.
He then said: “You won't believe it, but I'm going to kill myself and jump out of the window.” She said: “He was pushing me and then he punched me. I closed my eyes and fell backwards.” Coroner Paul Knapman recorded a verdict of misadventure.
