2012 to close Woolwich roads for months

Olympics chiefs have warned of traffic congestion around the 2012 shooting venue as roads are closed for up to nine months before the event.

A planning application submitted by the Olympic Delivery Authority for the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich also reveals sports fields will be closed and trees felled. The ODA plans to build five ranges on the 23-hectare site, which will also host the Paralympic archery.

The site was chosen because of its proximity to the athletes' village in Stratford. The ODA says 80 per cent of the estimated 6,500 spectators should arrive by train at Woolwich Arsenal station. However, with Ha Ha Road, Repository Road and Circular Way closed before and during the Games, it adds that "some parts of the network around the venue are predicted to be experiencing capacity problems".

The ODA plans to fell an unspecified number of trees and close football and rugby pitches from 2011.

Well what do you expect from these self-righteous self-serving olympicrats?
The whole world of sport has been ruined by BIG TV CASH, egged along by nationalistic furvour (although most who "play" for the country claimed are often imported AT GREAT EXPENSE from elsewhere).
And the argument that it will encourage our "yoof" to better health through enthusing sport is laughable - most will sit slumped on the couch chomping crisps and guzzling lager whilst cheering on their hopes for the all coveted road to OBE GOLD!
It’s about time we stopped confusing Sporting Celebrity Wanabees and their parasitic spivs with the drive to improve the physical health of the nation - those lessons of diet and exercise should start at school, not through the Plasma screen in the Wii gaming console connected living room.
And what we don`t need at these trying political and fiscal times is more Narcissistic Nationalism!
Scrap the lot, send it back to Athens.

Great idea, close three roads needed to access the only A&E Hospital in the area, can't see that causing any problems. What MORON's... Can the South Circular get any busier??!!
