Police launched a murder inquiry after a mother of two was found dead in a fire at her home today.

The 27-year-old's body was found on the ground floor by firefighters at about 1am after they attended the blaze in Dagenham.

The woman's partner, also 27, and her two sons, aged seven and nine, were rescued.

They were taken to hospital suffering smoke inhalation but were later released.

The man was later arrested and was being questioned by police today.

Scotland Yard said it was treating the death as murder and an investigation has been launched by the Homicide and Serious Crime Command.

A post-mortem examination is to be held to establish the cause of death. Police are waiting to inform her next of kin before releasing her name.
