Katie Price quits I'm A Celebrity

24 Nov 2009

I'm A Celebrity ... star Katie Price told how she had decided to quit the jungle after proving to the public she was "genuine".

The glamour girl, who is not being replaced, called it a day after repeatedly being chosen for the stomach-churning 'bushtucker trials'.

After viewers again chose her to carry out another challenge on Sunday night she refused and by Monday morning she had fled.

Price said she had proved herself and did not want to carry on with the show. The mother-of-three said she was also missing her children.

"I'm not in it to win it, it makes no odds to me," she said. "It's not about the money. I didn't come back here for that. I really miss my kids."

She continued: "I've done my challenges, people can see I'm genuine. I just don't want to be here any more."

Price - who was enduring her second stint in the jungle after first appearing in 2004 - was on Sunday picked to appear in her seventh trial, called Bad Pit, alongside ex-boxer Joe Bugner. But she responded: "Someone else has to do it. I'm just not doing it anymore."

By Monday morning ITV confirmed she had quit, saying "Katie Price has left the jungle." A spokesman for the show said there were "no current plans" to replace Price on the show.

The glamour girl turned best-selling author had entered the jungle in the wake of her divorce from Peter Andre, whom she met during her previous stint on I'm A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here!

But her months in the public eye, as she and Andre slugged it out in a bitter PR battle, seem to have acted to turn the public against her. Viewers voted again and again to put her up for the nasty trials which have seen her crunching fish eyes, driving slowly through a web full of spiders and drinking a cockroach smoothie.
