TV chef Aldo Zilli opens vegetarian restaurant
Sri Carmichael, Consumer Affairs Reporter27 Jan 2010
The first vegetarian restaurant in Britain run by a celebrity chef is to open in the West End.
Italian chef Aldo Zilli is relaunching his restaurant Signor Zilli Soho as a meat and fish-free zone — much to the delight of customer Sir Paul McCartney.
The former Beatle, a life-long vegetarian, told Zilli he is “ecstatic” and will take his family for dinner at the Dean Street venue when it opens on Valentine's Day.
The TV chef, who appeared on reality show Celebrity Fit Club, said: “There is a big move away from meat and fish as it takes so much more energy to produce.
"The new restaurant will use local, organic produce, serve organic wines and be tin-free. We will recycle everything.”
Dishes include artichoke and smoked mozzarella risotto and red lentil and barley hotpot.
Starters are priced from £1.95 while the most expensive dish — a truffle lasagne — will cost £8.95. Bookings will be taken from 13 February.

Thank goodness - we soooo need more decent vegetarian restaurants. Let's hope Aldo's equals the fabulous Terre a Terre in Brighton!

I think 'local' produce usually means 'produced locally'. Not just buying vegetables flown in from all over the world which happen to be sold in the nearby market.
