Banker caught on camera looking at porn in the office

2 Feb 2010

This is the moment a banker is caught looking at topless pictures on his computer as an analyst behind him speaks live to camera.

The man was at his desk at Sydney's Macquarie Bank during a report on interest rates for Channel 7's Sunrise show.

The banker then turns around and realises he has been caught in the act. He sheepishly returns to the charts he should have been studying.

One of the photographs has been identified as Orlando Bloom's girlfriend, the model Miranda Kerr.

There was no porn.

It is common for a woman on a beach in Europe to just wear a bikini, or to go topless.

Are they porn stars or sluts? No
Are they confident, beautiful women? Yes

Clearly staged. It is a slideshow of the girl pics separated by screen grabs of the trading screens. He (they) knew that the screen would be in full view of the film crew (probably not the first time they held an interview in that spot), and decided to have a bit of fun with it. When the crew left the office no dount had a good laugh about it.

Harmless, silly, and immature. Outstanding work chaps.

Porn? You see ads on billboards more ranchy this this. What a fuss about nothing. As most bloggers on here (including me) are typing this up in work time, pot, kettle, black comes to mind having read some of these comments!

Those photos hardly qualify as porn, but nonetheless, I am sure the employee will get binned as its very bad PR for Macquarie

I’ve seen the picture he was looking at, and it can’t even vaguely be categorised as porn. What a fuss over nothing.

Jim, as another Sydney resident perhaps you could enlighten us on how specifically Macquarie has made such a mess of our economy? No recession, half the OECD's unemployment, not $1 of emergency capital paid to banks in quasi-nationalisation, in fact I can't think of an Australian bank even making a LOSS while the world blew itself up.

Simon, London, UK - Outstanding response!!!

The rest of the posters who automatically and ignorantly jumped on the bank bashing bandwagon, please disguise yourignorance with comments that are newsworthy or of value. I hardly think an Australian Banker opening an email containing a topless (Pornography, oh PUHLEAAASSEE!!) picture should be a cause to consider the UK's national debt crisis a direct result. Really, having lived in (and loved) London for quite some time, I am constantly amused at the pettiness and ignorance of one of the brightest and best educated nations I have ever met. Sex is real and not bad, pornography while distasteful to some surely belongs in ones private life and I will concur that this fellow was guilty of MAYBE (see the e-mail comment) a work place transgression, but loosen up people!!.

ps - I get rubbish like these pics all the time on various work systems (Bloomberg etc) and unless there is text in the message or title a filter will NOT catch it. No software would be permitted to strip out (sorry for the pun) an attached picture - all bloomberg and market data attachments are pictures (jped, tif etc)

Sack them all.
I've had enough of these bailed-out fools bleeding the country dry.
Lazy, arrogant and filthy of mind.
It's time to give the money to the real workers!

You can clearly see that he was opening files from an email. One of many circulated around the world everyday. Probably all of the other commentators here receive emails from friends every day, that is if they have any friends...

People shouldn't judge until they have all the facts. The topless girls might have been vital to his research. The Channel 7 piece may have included an in-depth expose into the effect of interest rates on topless models, and the general quality of pornography since the world recession. Especially as it was being researched in Australia.

Quote: Jon Morton, Surrey. It is ridiculous and naive of any employer to expect human beings to be completedly productive 8-10 hours a day.

Far better that he spends a few minutes looking at these pics and then works diligently for the rest of the afternoon.
--------------------------------------------

Well Jon; as a highly paid Bank Employee; is it to much to ask, that he actually works his shift?

After all Jon; 8 or ten hours is not his whole life; and he does has free time after work to play around.

And you assume that this bank employee will continue to work diligently for the rest of the afternoon, with a bulge in his pants that isn’t money?

If he was working for you, and being paid by you; would you still think the same way?

So much for Macquarie Bank's new state of the art offices at King Street Wharf! If they had better quality filtering software on their email server the image would have never got through, that's assuming they even have any software. But really it's a reflection on the culture that must exist within the organisation.

Macquarie Bank is known in Australia as "The Millionaires Factory" because of its huge salaries & bonuses. What a timely reminder of how bankers justify their pay & why we're in such a mess thanks to them!
