Hotel with 450 bedrooms to be built next to O2

Plans have been submitted for a 21-storey hotel next to the O2 arena.
The venue's owner AEG Europe wants to construct the four-star, 450-bedroom hotel which would have views across the Thames towards Canary Wharf.
It would also have a huge “event space” which would have a broad range of uses.
The hotel would be flanked by another tall building, a 23-storey block of serviced apartments.
The plans are part of the scheme to regenerate the Greenwich Peninsula by the Homes and Communities Agency and Meridian Delta Limited.
It is not yet known which company would run the hotel, but AEG is said to be working with a shortlist of potential candidates.
David Campbell, of AEG Europe, said: “The O2 has already created more than 2,500 direct jobs in Greenwich. However, the real economic prize for Greenwich and east London is adding overnight visitors.”
Last month the venue was named the most popular in the world by events industry magazine Pollstar, with more than 2,349,952 ticket sales last year.
Many visitors travel miles to come to the arena, and it has faced criticism for not having any hotel provision on site.

I live on the Greenwich peninsular - whilst I welcome visitors to this lovely part of London, TfL & AEG need to resolve the current issues with local traffic and Public transport before this gets the go-ahead.

I love the o2 building, looks amazing, especially at night. Great news for the area.

I think the proposal is quite viable. However, does it have to be a concrete block monstrosity. It just looks cheap and would disturb the traditional look of the Thames. The monstrous huge white umbrella is a blight as it is, but this?
