Snow returned to the capital today as Britain braced itself for a fresh blast of wintry weather.
London and the south east will experience snow showers throughout the evening as temperatures plunge below freezing.
There will also be scattered sleet showers throughout the region followed by heavy rainfall tonight.
Overnight, temperatures in some parts of the capital will drop to minus 2C and there will be widespread frost.
Although there will be a few rain and sleet showers tomorrow, the wintry conditions are expected to ease with a maximum temperature of 6C.
A spokesman for weather forecaster MeteoGroup, said: “There will be snow across London this evening but other than a slight dusting, it is not expected to settle.
“Tomorrow will be a bit warmer although the temperature is still below the average for this time of year.”
Temperatures over the past week have been milder, reaching nearly 10C in parts, as a result of cloud cover.
This week, western parts of the UK are expected to see the coldest weather between Wednesday and Friday, dropping to minus 4C overnight.
The change in the weather results from a high pressure to the north of the UK, which is sending down the brisk, chill winds across the country and creating clear skies.

People comment on it, Jon, because 1.it is the most intense winter for over 25 years, so it has not been happening like this "every few years" 2. experts, so called ,have been telling us that we will forget what snow looks like-tell that to the inhabitants of Washington 3. our own MetOffice has maintained its 100% record of incorrect seasonal forecasts, whuich have always erred on the side of warmer.

It's cold and we get snow sometimes. That's because its WINTER. Why is this news or is it because us Brits are never happier than when we're drowing in doom and gloom all the time! If we get a heatwave in June people will whinge about that too.

Enough please of "so this is Global Warming!" All this this is weather not Climate. Golbal warming is melting the Ice Cap which is not in dispute and why we have a Thames barrier. Every few years high cylconic pressure over the pole during our winter months pushes cold air furher south and when it meets the prevailing west wind moving humidityeast across the Atlantic we experience what we call " bad winter".

Climate is the average over several decades or longer. One cold winter is just weather.
And this one is nowhere near a record. 1963 was vastly worse, 1947 was probably even worse.

After looking at what´s dropped on the eastern states of the USA, Britain has got off quite light and still made a big fuss about if. Stop your whining, people, and learn to handle it.
