Five British soldiers held over Lanzarote brawl

Five British soldiers have been arrested after allegedly attacking staff and customers at a restaurant called The Mad Cow on Lanzarote.

The men, thought to be on holiday, are said to have gone berserk after being caught trying to steal a bottle of wine and asked to leave.

Witnesses told how families with children cowered under tables as chairs and bottles flew over their heads. Several people were treated in hospital after being punched as they went to the aid of the restaurant owner.

One man said: “I've never seen such violence. Four of five of them at a time were hitting people as hard as they could.”

The incident took place on Saturday in the resort of Costa Teguise. The soldiers appeared in court yesterday in the capital Arrecife to answer allegations of assault and criminal damage.
No one has yet been charged and a judicial investigation is continuing.

The soldiers are thought to be members of the Welsh Guards.

Let them go, Dominic? Let them rot in jail, where they belong. I don't know what's wrong with you, Brits, but you are the most drunk, violent, disrespectful and mentally wasted lot I've ever seen outside a Zoo in my country.

Soldiers! It had to be soldiers, obviously. The RAF and RN have a better standard of personel, intelligent, sophisticated, sensible, integrity, you know the type - the sort of sons any good parents would be proud of. The army attracts the wrong sort of people to it's ranks, the riff-raff, dregs of society, the no-hopers.
Sadly, they bring shame to the Armed Forces, the Country, and by association, also those in the RAF and RN.
I have seen it many, many, times during my 25 years service with HM Forces, in Gibraltar, Middle East, Germany, and in the UK.
It seems that nothing has changed, as highlighted by events in Lanzorete.

What these people need is a spell of National Service, that will sort them out.

Oh, maybe not.
