Taiwan tells citizens not to fear Tiger babies

A Taiwanese official has urged citizens to procreate amid fears the Year of the Tiger may lower birth rates on the island even further.

Chinese people believe Tiger babies can be vicious and harm relatives. Education Ministry official Yang Chang-yu said: “Not delivering Tiger babies is but a myth and children of any zodiac animals could achieve success.”

There were 271,450 births in Taiwan in the last Year of the Tiger in 1998. Two years later 305,312 were born in the Year of the Dragon - said to be the best year to have a child.
