A top golfer today branded Tiger Woods “selfish” for making his public apology on the day of a major tournament.
Former world No1 Ernie Els said choosing tomorrow to break his silence over his infidelities clashes with the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship — the biggest event of the golfing year so far.
He said: “It's selfish. I feel sorry for the sponsor (Accenture). Mondays are a good day to make statements, not Friday. This takes a lot away from the golf tournament.”
Accenture, the business services giant, was one of the first companies to dump Woods after the revelations about his private life emerged following a car crash on 27 November.
Another player at the championship in Tucson, Arizona, who did not want to be named, said he felt Woods was getting back at the company with the timing of his TV appearance.
“That was the first thing we all thought of, like he is sticking it to Accenture,” he said.
It is also feared his statement at the headquarters of the US PGA Tour in Florida, could spark even more trouble from one of his mistresses.
Ahead of his appearance, Los Angeles cocktail waitress Jaimee Grubbs, 23, said she deserves an apology for him cheating on her with several other women.
“I would like an apology and an answer why, if he did have all these other women, was he so insistent on me staying,” she said.
Of his public statement tomorrow, which is also expected to include details of his golfing comeback, she added: “I just hope he makes the right choices.”
Woods, 34, went into hiding immediately after the crash and the father-of-two has since been fighting to save his marriage to Swedish ex-model Elin Nordegren, 29.
He is also said to have spent time at a sex addiction clinic after his admission of “transgressions”.

It's the Chinese New Year and it's the year of the TIGER.
Whilst traveling I saw a funny Accenture advert with Tiger woods in it looking at his golf ball which had
gone into a pond, with the words underneath saying,
"It's what you do next that counts".
I stopped, laughed and took a picture of it with my mobile.

I had a really exciting game of Crazy Golf at the weekend while on a trip to Bognor Regis. i can now understand the pressure these professionals must be under during tournamants........
i'm meant to be taking part in a competetion in Littlehampton but these new revelations about Tiger is just not good preparation...
i beg tiger and his harem to put this nasty episode behind us quickly so we can all go back to playing golf..
besides i've just a new putter and can't wait to get it out...........

I'm pretty sure that's precisely what he wants to do. This 'apology' is driven only by the hounding he and his wife are getting from people who have nothing to do with any of this.
This woman demanding her apology? Ignore her for the publicity tart she is.

Is she serious? What a fool. I hate homewreckers. I seriously hope he reserves all of his sorries for his wife and kids. She needs to get some class and dignity. Acting pitiful, like she is a victim. Get outta here. She made the choice to sleep with a married man. How often does that ever turn out good? Stupid woman.

I actually hope she does speak out on Friday. Public apology? What makes him think he is important enough that anyone wants to hear about his sleazy lifestyle. Go away you disgusting excuse for a man. I hope he gets cold shouldered by all decent professional golfers.

Yes keep it private. When one is in the public eye nowadays the risk of exposure is enormous, almost certain. Tiger didn't estimate this or think it would come out. Has he learnt his lesson, I doubt it.
