Ministry of Sound cranks up the volume in fight against flats
Sri Carmichael, Consumer Affairs Reporter18 Feb 2010
The Ministry of Sound today launched a campaign against plans to build flats on its doorstep, which it fears may lead to its closure.
The giant nightclub in Elephant and Castle says residents living so close could legitimately complain about noise, threatening its 18-year licence.
The Ministry's owners have been arguing privately with developer Oakmayne over the shops, offices and homes proposed for the land in Gaunt Street, since last February.
The consultation period ends on 13 March before the scheme is put before Southwark council's planning committee.
Oakmayne has offered £400,000 for sound-proofing. Lohan Presencer, chief executive of the Ministry of Sound Group, says this is “unworkable” as the club would need to close for up to nine months.

The problem is, despite all the people that travel to use clubs, they always seem to be a low priority for the politicians compared with the big business lobby. If they do move, what's to stop another developer putting in an application at the new location?

If you don't want to live opposite a club... don't buy a flat opposite a club.

The E & C is happily changing and moving into the future. I know the MoS has been around for a long time, I used to go there in he 80's, but things move on and areas change....Kings used to fox hunting in Soho!
There is no local finacial benifit from the MoS, apart from the local drug dealers and London transport getting drunk and drug kid in and out of the area. Maybe it is time the MoS moved and drugs up somewhere else........ OR, on the othere hand, put in some sound proofing and shut up!

I'd protest solely on the grounds that Elephant and Castle is no place for normal humans to live.
