Gunman seize South African sports journalists in Nigeria
2 Mar 2010Gunmen kidnapped three sports journalists working for an African satellite channel in the Niger Delta.
The two Nigerians and a South African were on their way to an airport with other journalists when they were attacked.
“On their way back to another match venue, they were robbed. A few of them were taken away,” said Charles Anazodo, another journalist at TV channel SuperSport. “State governors are working hard to ensure these guys are found.”
Rebels demanding money from the country's oil industry regularly attack pipelines, kidnap petroleum company staff and battle government troops. Journalists have also been killed and beatings are common durign election campaigns.
