Cordwainer cyclists go hell for leather
Miranda Bryant17 Mar 2010
A team of cyclists from one of the City's oldest livery companies aims to travel in relays 1,400 miles in 20 days from Spain to London following the historic route of the capital's shoemakers.
The four Cordwainers will take it in turns to carry a piece of “cordwain” leather from Cordoba, from where it gets its name, to raise money for the Royal London Society for the Blind.
The Worshipful Company of Cordwainers is made up of the fashion and footwear industries and families who have been associated with the shoe trade for generations.
