Store launches ‘daddy gadget’ lessons for fathers-to-be

Baby products have become so complex that stores are now offering parents classes in how they work.

John Lewis is running “daddy gadget” classes for customers at its Oxford Street store, teaching them how the latest buggies, baby monitors and high chairs work.

The classes, with a John Lewis instructor, include advanced buggy manoeuvres such as the “bus dismount” and the “shopper weave”.
They also feature putting their child into a high-chair harness and capturing first words with a camcorder.

Marcia Marshall, nursery adviser at John Lewis in Oxford Street, said: “We've tailored the classes especially for men and they are very hands-on. If you can't control a pram on a busy street, it can be a nightmare, so we show people exactly how to control them.

“We have drawn up a timetable which covers all gadget tricks, for example engaging the 360-degree swivel and multiple reclining positions on the baby chair.”

The classes, which are free, are booked up weeks in advance.
