Royal Parks may host farmers’ markets

Farmers' markets are set to be held in Royal Parks after plans for parking charges were scrapped.

Ministers are considering allowing monthly markets in Richmond Park and Bushy Park, both in south-west London, to raise funds for their upkeep. If approved, it may even mean that visitors will be able to buy park-reared venison.

The move may be resisted by animal rights activists.

Richmond Park and North Kingston MP Zac Goldsmith believes Richmond Park venison could be marketed as a speciality.

Tory Mr Goldsmith said: “It's about as close to organic that you can get.” Other fund-raising plans include discreet retail units, park merchandise and honesty boxes.

Why? I get my meat from Smithfields and my fish from Billingsgate, it saves a fortune on the supermarket stuff, farmers markets are an absolute ripoff for the gullible (didn't someone get caught selling Tesco's tomatoes as organic free range tomates for 4x the price a few years ago?)

Park reared venison is unfit for human consumption due to traffic fumes. I am sure these markets will be popular with the white middle classes if you could drag them out of Waitrose.

There has been a farmers' market adjacent to the museum in nearby Lancaster for the past 700 years.

It is about time London caught up with life North of Watford.
