Detectives offer £20,000 reward in south London car murder inquiry

Detectives offered a £20,000 reward today for information about the murder of a man who was shot dead as he sat in his car in a residential street.

Nathan Williams, 24, from Kennington, south London, was shot several times in his VW Golf on July 28 2009.

Officers were called to Ludwick Mews, in New Cross, south-east London, at 1.30am following reports of gunshots.

They found Mr Williams with serious injuries. He was taken by ambulance to Kings College Hospital, but he died shortly afterwards.

The appeal was launched today to coincide with the anniversary of the murder and officers will be in the area tonight handing out leaflets and talking to the local community.

A 25-year-old man was arrested and bailed on suspicion of murder with no further action taken.

But police are hunting for four men who they believe may have been involved in the murder.

The death is being investigated by the Metropolitan Police Service's Trident team, which specialises in gun crime in the black community.

Det Ch Insp Gordon Allison, who is leading the investigation, said: "It's now a year on from Nathan's murder and we believe that the local community hold the answers as to who did this.

"This was a brutal execution of a young man and those who did this should not be tolerated by the community - if you have information I would urge you to come forward and work with police, who can protect your identity.

"Nathan's family deserve justice for their loss and the community deserve to live without fear of those who commit these terrible crimes."

Detectives are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact the Incident Room on 020 8247 4554 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
