A bull injured at least 40 people after leaping into the crowd at a bullring in Spain.
The incident happened yesterday in Tafalla, in the northern region of Navarra, during a contest of recortadores, in which participants attempt to dodge the bull.
One animal managed to leap the perimeter fence and rampage through the stands, sending dozens of spectators fleeing for safety.
Most of the injuries were minor and treated by medical staff on site, but five victims were taken to hospital for further attention, including a 10-year-old boy who was in a serious condition with stomach wounds. Another victim was gored in the back.
Spectators and officials tied a rope around the bull to bring it under control and Spanish media reported that the animal was removed from the arena with a crane and killed.
Spain is split over whether bullfighting should be outlawed.
Last month Catalonia became the first major region to ban it after debates that pitted animal rights against traditional culture.
The ban will take effect this year in the north-eastern coastal region whose capital is Barcelona.

Bob, in this case no I don't think it's worth it. They torment the poor animal for entertainment and then when it reacts and goes nuts in the crowd, they kill it because it hurt a few people. It didn't even kill anyone. Not fair since nature says it shouldn't be put into that sort of environment in the first place. The use of animals for entertainment in this way should be banned. I agree with another poster, why has the nannying EU already forced a Europe wide ban?

Um, would it be worth pointing out that recortadores isn't bull fighting and the bull isn't killed or injured? Admittedly it's tormented by pillocks trying to jump over it but the only thing that stands to get hurt is anyone stupid enough to get in the ring with it.

Funniest film clip i've seen in ages. The bull gets his own back on all those silly people who think that watching a large beast being driven to anger by tormenting it and then stabbing it with sharp poles is either a sporting occasion or tradition. It is not, it is simply animal cruelty and should be stopped.

That Bull should have been in a field with a herd of Cows , doing his business, not being tortured to please a crowd of blood thirsty idiots.

Catalonia was the second region in Spain to ban bullfighting. The Canary Islands did it first, back in 1991.

The bull was just being a bull. The humans behaved like animals.

That poor magnificent beast with a majestic leap towards freedom... Was almost godlike one can almost imagine Europa on its back.
The only animals there were in the crowd. It's time the EU forced Spain's hand and demand this ended fast... or they're frozen out.

Fantastic. It's about time those ghouls watching the 'fight' got a taste of their own medicine.
Even at the best of times the fight is not fair with the bull being tormented and speared before the preening matador enters the ring.
Hopefully this is the beginning of the end.

You'd need a heart of stone not to laugh. It's like the boy who burns his fingers tormenting ants then runs to his mum, only in this case the ant is 70 stones of muscle. More power to the bull.

Serves 'em right. I'm no great animal lover, but I don't like to see them killed as entertainment either.

This is a fantastic example of why bull fighting should be outlawed. If, like so many, you don't care whether or not a bull is brutually killed for 'sport' then you should, at the very least, care when humans are injured/killed by the bull. It shows what a silly and dangerous 'sport' it is. Where is the 'sport' in watching an animal that has already been drugged or injured behind the scenes to make it easier/funnier for the matador and the crowd.
I am so happy to hear that Catalonia has banned bull-fighting. Let's hope it's made into a worldwide ban.

You reap what you sow! If you support this type of event by attending, don't complain if you get gored.
