Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin sign up to oppose arts cuts

More than 100 leading artists including David Hockney, Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin are backing a new campaign to fight cuts in the arts.
Other names signed up to oppose the Government's proposed 25 per cent reduction in funding include Anthony Caro, Howard Hodgkin, Anish Kapoor, Richard Hamilton and Antony Gormley.
The campaign will be launched officially on Friday with the release of a new video animation by artist David Shrigley highlighting the effect of the funding cuts.
Each week the work of a different artist, created in response to the campaign, will be released.
Most of the big arts organisations believe they can absorb cuts of 10 per cent but say anything beyond 15 per cent will have serious effects. They also fear that smaller organisations and those outside London could be destroyed.

If it meant never seeing their vapid, pseudo avant garde, fashionable, media friendly garbage again I'd abolish all arts funding tomorrow.
