London Muslims send peace message to pastor planning Koran-burning

Miranda Bryant and Justin Davenport
10 Sep 2010

Thousands of Muslims gathered at Europe's biggest mosque today to condemn the American pastor who planned an “International Burn a Koran Day”.

About 11,000 people attended the Baitul Futuh Mosque in Morden to “send a message” to Terry Jones, the pastor who planned to burn copies of the Koran tomorrow, the ninth anniversary of 9/11.

The world head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, led the prayers which were broadcast to millions in a telecast.

“Religious extremism, be it Christian extremism, Muslim extremism or any other kind, is never a true reflection of the religion,” he said.

“The world needs peace, love and brotherhood. The world needs an end to wars. Instead of wars of hatred being erected we need peace to prevail and for this to occur people of all faiths must join together.”

Representatives from different religious groups — including the Church of England, the Catholic Church and Islamic and Jewish communities — met at the mosque earlier to denounce the pastor's action and exchange religious texts.

Florida pastor Mr Jones last night cancelled his plan to burn copies of the Koran but appeared to leave open the possibility he could change his mind if a proposed meeting with Muslim leaders planning to build a mosque near Ground Zero in New York did not take place.

Mr Jones, 58, head of the tiny Dove World Outreach Centre in Florida, claimed an agreement had been reached with Muslim leaders to move the location of the Ground Zero Islamic cultural centre.

But Muslim leaders denied any deal and later outside his church the pastor said a local imam had “lied” about moving the mosque.

Details emerged today of Mr Jones's past in Germany where he and his wife ran a church in Cologne until they were expelled by the congregation for Islamophobic behaviour and creating a “climate of fear and control.” There were also allegations of financial irregularities.

Former church members said the couple preached hate-filled sermons and ordered people to beat demons from their children with rods. Stephen Baar, a current pastor of the Cologne church, described Mr Jones has having a “delusional personality”.

In Afghanistan, 11 people were injured when thousands of Muslims protested against the Koran-burning. Police in the northern province of Badakhshan said several hundred demonstrators had charged toward a Nato compound.

Satan's LIE

Some men say, "There is no God"
And that they say, "Is right"
They ask, "How can there be a God,
when the world is in such plight ?"
The way they think and always sigh
Often makes me want to cry;
Because I know from God's Word
That they believe in Satan's lie.

Satan has beguiled these men
Women too as well,
He stops them from believing God
And takes them down to hell.
So, just believe in God's Word
About the shape the world is in,
Once you do, then you will know
That it's all because of SIN.

What horrible sentiments.
Muslims like money more than most Westerners, as a visit to the wealthiest parts of any city will demonstrate. The king of Morocco is not short of a bob or two, & 2 of his predecessors used a million white slaves to build a mighty palace, which has since largely fallen down.
As for the hatred of Israel, it is beneath contempt to respond, beyond saying
that Jerusalem was the capital of the Jewish kingdom, centuries before the
new religion of Islam occupied it.
Some parts of our sadly declining kingdom are similarly under occupation.

A nation sent out of their land for more than 60 years, being abused by settlers and army in West Bank and put in a big prison in Gaza. What has the West done for these people to help them???? the West is watching and supporting Isreal. I think you Europeans and American have to learn more about Islam and Muslims. To these I say:WE ARE NOT TERRORIST, Tolerance is rooted in our religion since the days of the Prophet Muhamed. Discover Islam yourself and NOT through your media!!! No more time for prejudice! The difference is that we know about you more than you do about us!!!! I visited London in July and I discoverd it myself!!!

Richard, I am not entirely sure what your bizzarre poetry is about. However, I am not one to mock. I do take issue a little bit with your comment regarding anyone who isnt a Christian is denying the truth. I am Jewish, and traditionally religious. I studied Torah and the history of our people is celebrated on the holidays throughout the year. Just because I am not a Gentile, doesnt make me a non-believer.

Anyway, regarding this business with the burning of books. I still think the best way to outsmart these 3rd world barbarians who were responsible for 9/11 is not to do as they do. Burning of books is prohibited in any monotheisic religion, so by doing so, this bogus "pastor" would be lowering himself to the level of the Islamic terrorists. The Western world is civilized because our cultures are advanced. Theirs is backward because their culture is retrogressive and barbaric. The only way to win against these people is to outsmart them and show them that we are better. They do not know how to reason with anyone about anything. They only know corruption and brutality. No terrorists can really succeed against a truly civilized society.

The pit is full of spiders
With eyes that glow bright red;
These spiders crawl upon the flesh
Of those that die, undead.
The spiders mock and laugh at you
At you the unbeliever;
Because you have no faith in Christ
And you served the great deceiver.
The pit is full of darkness
Hanging heavy like a shroud
And whispering voices curse you too
Because you have been proud.
They ridicule and laugh at you
In madness you start screaming,

THE FIZZER

In the image of God
Man was made that day,
To stand upon his feet
And not as the monkey sway.

In the image of God
Man was made to be,
Able to reason and to speak
No gorilla was he.

In the image of God
Man is still today;
Not born of evolution
As some do like to say.

Now as to the 'Big Bang theory'
The question is a quizzer,
I shall answer in this manner
The Big Bang was a fizzer.

I know the evolutionists
All say, 'I am dumb'
Because I believe the Bible
And that the Big Bang is yet to come !

In the image of God
That's how I was made
So I might commune with God -
But evolution ? I upbraid.

The history of religion is littered with devision, torture, murder and civil war, religious belief has brought this world nothing but poison,it is a dangerous and divisive belief system, witness the religious sectarian violence in Iraq, listen to the ramblings of the fundamentalist Islamic regime in Iran.Northern Ireland,Bosnia etc, 3 million woman tortured and killed in Europe, in church inspired witch hunts,O so holy catholic priests abusing children,in the name of god no doubt.Tony blair praying before launching his campaign of death on a innocent country,he obviously didnt pray to a Muslim god!public transport bombed by the believers in a god!Even now the biggest threat of terrorism comes from those who believe in a god.
And yet these believers still try to claim the moral high ground! If the boy scout movement had committed half the atrocities that the religious organization had they would now be a banned organization.
One thing this so called pastor has achieved is to once again remind the world what a hate filled screwed up bunch of people they really are.

They've done a good job on you with the brainwashing. The Bible contains more murder, lurid melodrama, and events connected to the seven deadly sins than any other book ever written. It is not "God's Word" - God does not exist. Religion was invented by man as a form of control to bring into line those people unable to think for themselves. To ram home their ideaologies the religious men created "Gods" and used them to instill fear, and thus made the populous do exactly as they said.

As ever we have the western left and Muslims worldwide demanding one rule for them and another for everyone else. For decades Muslims have been burning flags, effigies of people, and destroying the holy relics and symbols of other religions; e.g. the Taliban's destruction of the Buddhist Bamiyan statues in Afghanistan. Now though because someone with a differing view to theirs wishes to do the same back to them then all hell breaks lose and the various dhimmis governing the USA and across the world prostrate themselves in horror.

Unless and until Muslims stop applying grossly double standards and cease their ever more strident demands for special treatment and for everyone else to conform to their point of view then there can only be conflict and discord, eventually probably all out war.

Deplorable as it is for the pastor to threaten burning the Koran, it's as legitimate as it is for the insensitive proposal to build a mosque centre near the ground zero site. Both have law on their side, but both equally have a duty of sensitivity to respect the feelings of the other's communities. The wealthy Muslim landowners could offer the site as a people community centre, sans religion, for New Yorkers. Or commemorate it to a the spirit of the future by designating it as a special place for children.

If the reprehensible book burning of the Koran does take place, as a Muslim preacher urged today to the Muslim diaspora, "remember it is the time of Ramadan. Hold yourself in discipline in the face of this malicious act".

Worth remembering too, is that British communities of all religions didn't give in to mass blood lettings, or effigy burnings, to Muslim neighbours in the face of extreme provocation. For years, Muslim hate preachers preached hatred, violence and even urged killings to non Muslim citizens on the streets of this country. Abu Hamza, Omar Bakri Mohammed and many others preached bile and hatred towards British Christians and other infidels. They may have upped the recruitment for the BNP, but however far their incitement to hatred went, self discipline prevailed and neither these despicable extremists, nor random Muslims were submitted to hysterical mob attacks on our streets for the crimes these so called 'holy men' committed.

Why in God's name dont you do something constructive.....give away a spare body organ,or blood.......By jove I have it!!!! I know, why dont you buy as many Bibles as possible, and go to the middle east and MEET some of the people that you wish to Hate so much. Pass out your Bibles, preach your dribble and be done already. Not all people are bad, in a group. Just some of the very simple minded ones are.

I would like to thank the Evening Standard for their kindness in allowing my comments, even though they seem to anger the atheists. Having said that could I ask this question of the gainsayers.

A FOOL

I am a fool for the Christ
Far as this world's concerned
But at the Rood of Calvary
Is where true wisdom is learned.
I am a fool for the Christ
When judged by other men
But I know my judge's name
He said it is 'I AM'
I am a fool for the Christ
You may think so too
But could I ask one question;

Just, whose fool are you ?

without religion you have good people doing good things, and bad people doing bad things, but only with religion can you have good people doing truly evil things.

Superbly put and spot on. Anti religionists jump on the 'war is caused by religion' bandwagon but sadly they don't think the theory through properly.

If everyone followed the 'do unto others' rule wouldnt the world be a better place? That doesnt cause war does it and yet it is found in the bible.

Well done for making a valid point!

D. O. M.

Deo Optimo Maximo
The monks of old did declare
For in doing something for God -
They teach us that we must take care.

For God does not require of a man
That which he does not possess
But in all that he has he must give -
For his brethren that be in distress.

Deo Optimo Maximo
These words are not new nor the latest
Deo Optimo Maximo means
'To God the best and the greatest'

'And whatsoever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus.'

Dom & Jane - Religion doesn't cause war, men do.
Religion is just their justification for an unjustifiable act.
After all it is the same God in the Bible, Torah or Koran.
They say they are do it for God but in reality is for their own glory and greed; their own agenda. It's never about God.

Capt Mainwaring would say.... "Stupid Boy!"

Corporal Jones would say.... "They don't like it up 'em, Capt Mainwaring!"

The gist of this is that religious fanatics from all the Great Faiths are as much a menace to society as any terrorist. Don't tar all peoples of faith just because a few of their so-called co-religionists are hell bent of creating mayhem.

Well hear this.

FOR ME

I was standing in a crowd one day
And there was such a din,
Everyone was crying out -
'Away, and crucify him !'

I asked of one standing near
What means this their screaming ?
He told me that the one on trial
Was guilty of blaspheming

How, I asked is this
What is it he has done ?
The other one replied;
Said that, he was God's own Son.

And as I then beheld this man
Who had been scourged and blamed
I could not tell just what it was
But, I felt so ashamed.

For I could see within his eyes
As he looked back at me,
One who was a loving friend
He was no enemy.

And on the hill called Calvary
Outside that city gate,
They nailed him to his heavy stake
Then they reviled with hate.

Now as I neared his dying form
I saw the blood-soaked ground
I cried, I fell down at his feet
My Saviour I had found.

For into his eyes again I'd looked
And this time I did see,
He had no need to say one word -
'Cause he was there For Me.

I am seriously concerned about the collective sanity of the human race.A bonkers Christian!a nobody, threatens to burn a book in America, the head of the UN makes a statement, the media runs around in a feeding frenzy, people come out on the streets, security forces are put on alert, embassies around the world are alerted, the president of the united states gets involved, the head of the us army makes statements, troops are threatened etc !! now come on people, please, you are all co conspirators in this silly nonsense. The bonkers Christian has achieved the status for himself and his silly little church and his daft beliefs that he always craved! O how i wish these silly people would get so enraged about some genuine out rage, like the genocide in Sudan or the starving and disposed in the world,or the injustices of war etc etc. This event is a sad reflection on certain groups of humanity. And i for one am sick to the back teeth of this saga, even more i have had enough of religious believers and there delusions being given such prominence, its only a belief, and there is no evidence to support those beliefs. I like most people am sick of hearing about your gods and your beliefs.

As an atheist I do not understand either side. I do not understand why I should "respect" religions when they are illogical, irational and the cause of war and hatred. This "my god is better than your god" is no more than a playground game and I never had to respect that. Religion is past its sell by date.

I agree that the pastor's intentions are somewhat insensitive but, given the circumstances, so is the proposal to erect a mosque at (or near) the site of the 2001 atrocity in my opinion. A little bit of forward thinking and reasoning, a little earlier, wouldn't have gone amiss.
