Anglophile: Saif al-Islam Gaddafi is a graduate of the LSE and is said to be close to Prince Andrew

Gaddafi son's £10m Hampstead house

The son of Colonel Gaddafi is a former London university student who owns a £10 million house in Hampstead.

Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, 38, who said on TV that the streets would run with "rivers of blood" if the protests continued, is a fluent English speaker with a PhD in governance and international relations from the LSE.

In 2009 he pledged £1.5million to the university from his charitable foundation.

A designer and painter, he also has an architecture degree from Al-Fateh University in Tripoli as well as a Masters in business from Imadec University in Vienna.

The heir bought the neo-Georgian, eight-bedroom property near Hampstead's billionaires' row in 2009, with a swimming pool, sauna room, Jacuzzi and cinema room.

His London base, protected by a private security team, is his third residence, along with his father's military compound in Tripoli, and his farm outside the city, where he has kept two pet tigers. It is owned by a holding company in the Virgin Islands.

An Anglophile, he met Lord Mandelson at the Corfu villa of the Rothschild banking family. He is also said to be close to Prince Andrew.
