Sack lazy shadow cabinet members, urges Prescott

Joe Murphy, Political Editor
26 Sep 2011

John Prescott today called on Ed Miliband to reshuffle his shadow cabinet and sack members who were "not carrying their weight".

The former deputy prime minister said some workshy members of Mr Miliband's team were failing to hold the Coalition to account.

Lord Prescott told Radio4's Today programme: "This is a Tory government that's doing some outrageous things and we haven't had many words of protest.

"Ed, you're the leader, get a shadow cabinet who'll do that." The peer, who is staying away from the annual party conference for the first time in 40 years, did not name the politicians he was referring to.

In another dig, Lord Prescott told Mr Miliband to stop saying sorry for Labour's record, adding: "I say stop apologising, stop complaining and get out campaigning."

Just as a matter of interest what exactly did john prescott bring to the nations benefit whilst he was in the cabinet as deputy pm. (except scandal that is).

When Prescott refers to those "not carrying their weight" does he mean those who - unlike himself - do not look like tubs of lard? Shouldn't he in fact have said those who "are not pulling their weight"? I am perhaps being pedantic, but many of the problems this country now faces are due to having had ignorant, uneducated nonentities like Prescott sitting on the labour front bench.

You can always rely on Prescott for a clear reasoned arument ....i.e.saying something to get a headline whilst remaining too cowardly to name the "idlers".

Prezza clearly had pondered on such strong views when he was playing doctors and nurses with his secretary Tracey Temple in the office.
