Cracking way to follow Elephant Parade

It will be eggstraordinary, eggstravagant and eggsceptionally good fun.

All manner of puns will be brought to bear when The Big Egg Hunt is launched in London next Easter.

Following the Elephant Parade which last year had 260 decorated glass fibre pachyderms installed from Greenwich to Heathrow, the egg hunt will see 200 large eggs scattered across the city.

Entrants will pay a small fee to join the hunt and seek the decorated eggs for the 40 days and nights of Lent.

And at the end of the hunt, the eggs will be sold with the aim of raising £1million for Action for Children, which supports 150,000 families a year, and £1million for Elephant Family, the elephant conservation body which ran the Elephant Parade.

Each egg will be decorated by a leading artist, architect, jeweller or designer from the Chapman brothers to Giles Deacon, Zandra Rhodes to Nicky Haslam and Marc Quinn to Russian jewellers Fabergé.

Sam Bompas, of Bompas and Parr, experts in outlandish food, said: "Nothing has intrigued, beguiled and challenged like The Big Egg Hunt." Mark Shand, Elephant Family founder, said they were thrilled when Action for Children asked them to co-host the project. "It's great because it's children and animals," he said.

The Big Egg Hunt was launched by food writer Tom Parker Bowles who created an exclusive breakfast for the occasion. "Eggs Fabergé," quails' eggs, lobster and caviar, sponsored by Fabergé, was served at the Goring Hotel.

Artists and businesses who would like to paint or sponsor an egg, should call The Big Egg Hunt team on 020 7251 5099 or email Rachel@thebigegghunt.co.uk
