Strain: Kim Sears watches Murray's defeat

Court drama: Tension for Kim Sears as boyfriend Murray crashes out

Benedict Moore-Bridger
27 Jan 2012

Andy Murray's girlfriend Kim Sears could only watch sadly today as he crashed out of the Australian Open after a thrilling five-set match against Novak Djokovic.

The British number one looked set to serve for the match but squandered three break points and succumbed 6-3 3-6 6-7 6-1 7-5. The semi-final defeat will be hard to take for the Scot, who hoped to reach his third successive Australian Open final.

The drama on court was echoed in the players' boxes. As the world number four trudged off court, the world number one Djokovic's girlfriend, Jelena Ristic, jumped for joy as he collapsed in victory.

Djokovic will face Rafael Nadal in Sunday's final, with the Spaniard having defeated Roger Federer in the other semi-final.

i really cannot believe the vitriol directed at one of the greatest athletes to come out of the uk. Very poor choice of headline as he did not "crash out" he was very closely "edged out" by the greatest tennis player in the world today. Just wait a wee while and witness the huge impact on his game from Ivan Lendl. BTW To rubbish Andy Murray because you are English & him a Scot is unbelievably immature and very stupid.

Crashed out? After a classic 5 setter? I could understand if it had been a hammering in straight sets.
Perhaps your headline writer needs to take a lesson or two.

The bile and vemon towards the greatest British tennis player of the modern era is sickening. He has been in three major finals and won more tournaments than any other British player in history. He has been ranked as high as No. 2 in the world and all we get are childish, anti-Scottish, and quite frankly offensive comments against him. Grow up and give praise to one of the finest athetes we have. Yes he will win a major tournament in the very near future and it wont be the last.

@ all the Murray knockers:

Where was England's great hope in the Australian Masters? Oh, that's right, they all got knocked out on Day 1. What a joke!

Murray is 3 times (probably more!) the player Henman was, and about 100 times better than any other post-WW2 player England has ever produced.

The reason Murray is so miserable about the English is because of people like you.

I'm sure the Scots will excel at sports once free of their UK masters, they'll be throwing all of the money from that North Sea oil and gas we're always hearing about into it.
