Cristiano Ronaldo (full name: Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aviero) is a Portuguese football player who captains the Portuguese national football team. In June 2009, Ronaldo was bought for £80 million by Real Madrid from Manchester United, making him the single most expensive football player in the history of the game. Ronaldo was first noticed by Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson while playing for Sporting Clube de Portugal, which led to his initial signing to Manchester United for £12.24 million in 2003 at 18 years old. Since playing at Manchester United, Ronaldo has earned himself a large number of individual honours, including UEFA Club Footballer of the Year in 2007-08, and FIFA World Player of the Year in 2008.
