Eldrick “Tiger” Woods is an American professional golfer who is considered the best to have ever played the sport.
Born in Cypress, Calfornia, Woods on 30 December, 1975, he became a professional golfer in the summer of 1996.
As of July 2010 Woods had won 14 Major Championships and 95 tournaments, with 71 of those victories coming in the PGA tour.
He picked up the Masters title in 1997, 2001, 2002 and 2005 and won the PGA Championships in 1999, 2000, 2006 and 2007.
And his list of achievements did not stop there.
Woods triumphed in the U.S. Open three times, in 2000, 2002 and 2008, as well as winning The Open Championships in 2000, 2005 and 2006.
These victories, and subsequent endorsements, made Woods the highest-paid sportsman in the world, reportedly earning $110 million (£73m) in 2009.
However, allegations about Woods’ private life surfaced in 2009 and it emerged he had embarked on numerous extra-marital affairs. This resulted in the American taking time off from golf and he was subsequently dropped by a number of high-profile sponsors.
