Born in May 1987 in Dunblane, Scotland, Murray is Britain's number one tennis player. He turned professional in 2005, reaching his first Grand Slam final – the US Open - three years later, where he lost to Roger Federer in straight sets. He reached a career-high world ranking of two in 2009 during a successful season which saw him win a record six titles on the ATP Tour. The following year saw Murray win through to his second Grand Slam final, this time the Australian Open. However the Scot was once again defeated by Federer.
