Wayne Rooney is an English professional footballer from Liverpool who currently plays for Manchester United in the Premier League. He began his career at Everton aged ten and rose through youth teams. He made his debut for the club in 2002 aged 16 against Arsenal where he scored the winning goal, making him (at the time) the youngest goalscorer in the Premier League. He was signed in 2004 by Manchester United for £25.6 million and made his debut against Fenerbahce in the Champions League where he scored a hat-trick. He made his England debut in 2003 and played his first major international competition at Euro 2004 and then the 2006 World Cup where he was infamously sent off in England’s defeat by Portugal for stamping on Ricardo Carvalho.
