Alan Johnson and Joint Intelligence Committee

Alan Johnson is a Labour Party politician and has been Member of Parliament for Hull West and Hessle since May 1997. Johnson is Home Secretary, having assumed office on 5 June 2009 after the Cabinet reshuffle, replacing Jacqui Smith. In September 2004, Johnson was appointed Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, but after the General Election in 2005, he was made Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, where he served for exactly one year. On the 5 May 2006, Johnson moved to replace Ruth Kelly as Secretary of State for Education and Skills. After the resignation of Tony Blair and the rise of Gordon Brown, Johnson was again moved, this time to Secretary of State for Health in June 2007, before moving to Home Secretary in June 2009.
