Steven Gerrard and Sami Hyypia

Steven Gerrard is an English professional footballer who currently plays for Liverpool, who he has been with for his entire career. He made his club debut in 1998 and became a first team regular in 2000/1, before becoming club captain in 2003. Gerrard did not have immediate success in his career as a young player; he never played for England Schoolboys and had had trials with various clubs at fourteen. He scored his first club goal in the 1999/00 season against Sheffield Wednesday and has since gone on to score many goals for Liverpool, many of which have been crucial. He made his international debut in 2000 against Ukraine and appeared once in Euro 2000, but then missed out on the 2002 World Cup due to injury. Since then he has featured in both major competitions that England have qualified for: Euro 2004 and the 2006 World Cup.
