Jermain Defoe is an English professional footballer born in 1982 in Beckton, London. He began his career at Charlton Athletic aged 14 before moving to West Ham United at 16. He went on a season long loan to Bournemouth Fc in 2000/1, which gave him the experience to cement his place in the West Ham first team. After moving to Tottenham in 2004 he spent a year at Portsmouth in 2008 before returning to Tottenham in 2009. Defoe made his international debut in 2004 in a 1-0 defeat to Sweden but was singled out for his good performance. He missed out on the Euro 2004 squad and was left out of the 2006 World Cup squad with then manager Sven Goran Eriksson infamously choosing to take 17 year old Theo Walcott instead. Recently Defoe has stepped up his international goal rate under Fabio Capello and is staking his claim for a starting place.
