Mark Hughes enjoyed a long playing career both in England and abroad. His most notable clubs were Manchester United, Chelsea, Barcelona and Bayern Munich. Nicknamed ‘Sparky’, he first tried management with Wales
whilst still playing for Blackburn. In 2002 his Welsh
team were undefeated leading to their return to the FIFA top 50 after 8 years out. Hughes then took charge of Blackburn leading them to a first FA Cup semi-final in 40 years in his first season and a sixth place finish the next. Hughes was appointed Manchester City manager in June 2008 and used the riches of the new Abu Dhabi owner to smash the English transfer record with the £32.5m signing of Robinho.
