Alex Ferguson

Sir Alex Ferguson began his managing career in Scotland following a playing career for which he gained little fame. While managing Aberdeen he broke the Glaswegian dominance winning the league 3 times, as well as 6 other trophies. He was appointed Manchester United manager in 1986 and charged with the task of turning round an underachieving team languishing in the bottom four of the First Division. His first success came in the FA Cup in 1990 followed by the UEFA Cup Winner’s Cup and the League Cup in successive seasons. Under his leadership Manchester United won their first League title since 1967 and followed it with another in 1994. Sir Alex’s greatest achievement came in 1999 when the team became the first to win a treble of Premier League title, FA Cup and European Cup. Following that he achieved yet more success, to the extent that he has now won 11 Premier League titles in the 17 years it has existed.
