David Moyes’s managerial career began at Preston North End where he’d made 143 appearances as a player. He started off as a coach and then moved to assistant manager before finally being appointed manager in 1998. Moyes steered the club clear of relegation before winning promotion to the Championship the next season. He continued to impress, but was unable to guide his team into the Premier League as they lost in the play-offs in 2001. His remarkable leadership of Preston earned him a job at Goodison Park with Everton in 2002. Moyes led the club out of the relegation zone and almost secured a European spot the following season. Moyes did struggle with consistency at the start of his Everton career, however the last 3 seasons have seen the club finish 6th and 5th twice so that problem appears to have been solved.
