Paul Hart’s first job in management was at Chesterfield Town in 1988 and despite taking his side to the play-offs he was fired in 1991. After a spell as a youth coach at Nottingham Forest he moved to head up the Leeds United youth academy before returning to Forest in 2001 to lead the youth academy there. He was offered the job as Forest manager and in his first campaign took the club to the First division play-off semi final. His second season produced just 2 wins in 22 games and he was fired in 2004. Unsuccessful spells at Barnsley and then Rushden and Diamonds resulted in consecutive firings. After being put in charge of youth development at Portsmouth in 2007 he became caretaker manager of the club after Tony Adams'
sacking in 2009 and steered the club 7 points clear of relegation. This performance led him to be offered a two year permanent contract at the club.
