Flavio Briatore and Samuel Di Carmine

Flavio Briatore is an Italian businessman who is famous in the sporting world for managing Formula One racing teams and for co-owning Queens Park Rangers. Briatore had a fairly innocuous upbringing and business career until he became a friend and business partner with Luciano Benetton of Benetton clothing. The company’s rapid expansion in the U.S. and Briatore’s position as director of American Operations made him a wealthy man very quickly. Briatore was then made commercial director of the Benetton Formula One team before becoming managing director. His signing of Michael Schumacher from Jordan proved inspired and brought the team great success until Schumacher went to Ferrari in 1994. After purchasing several struggling race teams he became managing director of Renault in 2000, where he made yet another great find in Fernando Alonso. Briatore stayed at Renault until the recent scandal over an intentional crash at the Singapore GP led him to resign.

  • Briatore initially came under criticism for his decision to replace Jensen Button with the unproven Fernando Alonso however he was eventually proved right.
  • Briatore created and owns the Billionaire brand, which has clothing and sportswear lines, as well as a nightclub.
  • Briatore is joint owner of QPR with Bernie Ecclestone and Lakshmi Mittal.
