Max Mosley is (as of July 2009) the president of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the governing body for Formula 1 racing and various other international motor-sports. Once a qualified barrister, Mosley turned his interest to car racing in the 1960s and in 1969 co-founded and co-owned F1 racing team March Engineering. In 1993 Mosley became president of the FIA, and has been an advocate for increased driver safety and the increased usage of ‘green’ technologies in racing. In 2008, Mosley was the subject of widespread controversy after unorthodox details of his sex life were published by the News of the World newspaper. On the 24th of June 2009, Mosley announced that he would not run for re-election as FIA president.
