Tony Pulis started working towards his coaching career from a young age. Although a player he earned his FA coaching badge aged 19 and then his UEFA A license at 21. He became a player/coach at Bournemouth before being made assistant manager by Harry Redknapp and then moving into the position of manager when Redknapp left. After Bournemouth he had to a fairly successful 4 years at Gillingham, narrowly missing out on promotion into the First Division in his fourth season. He then spent two short periods at Bristol City and then Portsmouth before moving to Stoke City in 2002/3. He steered ‘The Potters’ clear of relegation and kept them mid-table before being sacked two years later. A brief stint at Plymouth led to his return to Stoke where he earned promotion in two seasons and then overcame the odds to establish Stoke in the Premier League in their first season.
