Mick McCarthy currently manages Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League having led them to promotion from the Championship in 2009. McCarthy had a playing career that saw him go to clubs in England, Scotland and France. Finally he was appointed Millwall manager in 1991 at the age of 32. In five years at the club he came close to leading his side to promotion to the Premier League, but in 1996 he took charge at the Republic of Ireland. Under McCarthy, Ireland reached the last 16 of the 2002 World Cup and were ranked 13th in the world. Appointed Sunderland manager in March 2003 he endured relegation and then promotion back into the Premier League in 2005. Sunderland struggled again and McCarthy was sacked. He joined Wolves in 2006, reaching the play-off semi finals in his first season before winning the Championship convincingly in his third.
