Blair impersonators wanted for West End

Tom Teodorczuk, Evening Standard

He has been portrayed on screen by Michael Sheen and Robert Lindsay - but now you can have the chance to impersonate the Prime Minister in comedy actor Rik Mayall's new West End show.

Producers of The New Statesman - Alan B'stard's Extremely Secret Weapon have organised open auditions to find Tony and Cherie Blair.

They take place at 10.30am on Monday in Trafalgar Studios, Whitehall. The show opens at the theatre on 13 December for seven weeks.

Mayall will reprise the part of B'stard, the sleazy politician who was the subject of hit ITV series The New Statesman, first shown in 1987.

However, writers Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran have switched B'stard's political colours from Tory to New Labour.

It remains to be seen whether Mr Blair or his wife - a keen theatregoer - will attend a performance.
