Middle-class mayhem: Michael McIntyre
Middle-class mayhem: Michael McIntyre

Critic's choice: comedy

Michael McIntyre has been a tip for the top for so long it is starting to get embarrassing, but it looks like he is finally breaking through.

A successful appearance at the Royal Variety Performance last autumn upped his profile and this Soho run is now selling fast. If you can bag a ticket you should be in for a treat.

The unashamedly middle-class jokesmith is one of the most gifted performers to emerge in years.

His improvised warm-up banter with the audience can work so well he sometimes barely gets to his slick-scripted observational material, which is pretty good, too.

If the DNA of Ross Noble and Bob Monkhouse was mixed up and stuck in a smart suit, McIntyre might well be the result. (0870 429 6883).

Tonight-21 April, 8pm. Also 9-12 May, 9.30pm.
