Extended run for play on the case against Blair

Louise Jury, Evening Standard

A play indicting the Prime Minister for aggression against Iraq is to continue for an extra three weeks.

Demand has prompted the Tricycle Theatre to extend the run to 9 June.

Nicolas Kent, the theatre's artistic director, said: "The box office is humming and phones are ringing off the hook, which is just great. I feel vindicated."

Evidence was taken by lawyers from diplomats, MPs and journalists as the basis of Called To Account - The Indictment Of Anthony Charles Lynton Blair For The Crime Of Aggression Against Iraq - A Hearing.

Richard Perle, a former defence adviser to President George Bush, and Sir Stuart Murray-Smith, former British Intelligence Services Commissioner, are among contributing "witnesses" to have seen the play.

Clare Short, who quit the Cabinet over Iraq, is due to attend tonight to see actress Diane Fletcher play her.

Evening Standard critic Nicholas de Jongh praised the play, describing it as "cool, clear and shocking".
