Hit-man: Lee Evans' turn in The Dumb Waiter means he is one of the 22 actors on the longlist
Look here too
The longlists for the 2007 Evening Standard Theatre Awards that we publish today are testimony to the extraordinary strength of London's theatre - and to the excellence of the actors. The best-actors longlist stretches to 22, from David Suchet's scheming cardinal in The Last Confession to Lee Evans's shady hitman in The Dumb Waiter; the 18 nominations for best actress range from Anne-Marie Duff 's suffering Saint Joan to Lindsay Duncan's alcoholic mother in That Face. Whoever triumphs at the prize ceremony next month, these lists are an indication of the quality of theatre enjoyed by West End audiences - and that in itself is worth celebrating.
