Satan: Douglas Henshall

Douglas Henshall is turning to the dark side for a new play.

Henshall, the scientific good guy in ITV sci-fi drama Primeval, will star as Satan in the European premiere of The Last Days Of Judas Iscariot at the Almeida in the spring.

The play is by American Stephen Adly Guirgis, whose previous work includes the West End hit Jesus Hopped The "A" Train, and will be directed by Rupert Goold - his first show since Macbeth with Patrick Stewart.

Henshall, 42, who lives in Islington, said: "I used to play quite a lot of baddies but I haven't played one for some time. I never really think of the devil as the baddy - I'm always on the side of whoever I play."

Previews will begin on 28 March and run until 10 May.
