A not to be missed production. "Crave" Room for Puddings' latest production at the Electricians Basement is an excellent show worthy of any production at the Royal Court. I'd have been happy to pay double the ticket price for such an outstanding production. This is a deeply challenging script that could have easily been directed into am-dram mello drama as I've seen so many times before. So I was nervous as I sat down in the dark, dank basement, on a chair reclaimed from a school staff room. However, Lauren Graham's directing is subtle and keeps the actors on a tight leash throughout whilst allowing the cast the space to breath and express themselves. She clearly has rehearsed the actors well as dialogue shoots rapid like bullets flying in every direction challenging you to keep up and at the same time never missing a line or a laugh. Graham's direction is deeply poignant and funny as I've always thought this play should be. She is a wonderful new voice in Theatre and I'm eager to see what she decides to direct next. The acting is good from all four actors with Catherine Eccles standing out. Challenging, engaging, atmospheric and brilliantly acted exactly what you want for a piece of theatre. Room For Puddings' production of Crave should be on the bill at The Old Vic. My only complaint...NO PUDDING! A simple slice of a chocolate sponge cake with a splash of cream would have made the evening perfect.
