The last final of the 2009 Wimbledon Championships ended in a shock mixed doubles win for Mark Knowles and Anna-Lena Groenefeld over top seeds Leander Paes and Cara Black.

Knowles, of the Bahamas, and Germany's Groenefeld, the ninth seeds who beat Andy Murray's brother Jamie and American Liezel Huber in the semi-finals, climbed back from 5-2 down in the opening set to win eight games in a row on the way to a 7-5, 6-3 victory.

With the win, Knowles ended a long wait for a Wimbledon title. The 37-year-old had never previously won a grand slam mixed doubles title in 50 previous attempts, although he had claimed men's doubles victories at the Australian, French and US Opens. Knowles said: "I've always wanted to win Wimbledon. It's the most important tournament in my mind. Like everybody, it's the tournament we all look up to."

Daniel Nestor, of Canada, and Serbia's Nenad Zimonjic retained their men's doubles title with a thrilling 7-6, 6-7, 7-6, 6-3 win over American top seeds Bob and Mike Bryan. "It is an amazing feeling to come again to defend the title and to go home undefeated," said Zimonjic, who at one stage received court-side treatment for a stomach complaint.

"However, we were fortunate to beat the Bryans. They are great champions."
